Job summary

Schuff Steel is seeking a Special Project Lead to execute and report on projects related to shop fabrication, production scheduling, quality, product shipping and maintenance. The role reports to the Executive VP of Fabrication and drives project objectives with a growth mindset for a long-term career.

The position requires extensive structural steel and equipment experience, strong leadership, and the ability to forecast requirements while ensuring safety.

Qualifications

  • 10 years of structural steel and equipment experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state building codes and ordinances; production/material specifications related to fabrication and erection of structural steel.
  • Ability to coordinate work/ship schedules; generate and comprehend functional statistical data and financial information.
  • Working knowledge of STRUM.I.S. or other production control software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures production staff adheres to safety standards.
  • Provides guidance, instruction, direction and leadership to production staff to meet established production and quality standards.
  • Defines the scope of project objectives and forecasts job requirements.
  • Coordinates priorities and resolves issues to maintain project goals.
  • Complies with corporate HR and Safety regulations.
  • Works to improve production processes and procedures.

We are looking for a professional with a growth mindset who desires a progressive career move for a long-term period.Key Performance Objectives:Ensures that production staff is adhering to all applicable safety standards;Provides guidance, instruction, direction and leadership while directly supervising production staff to meet the established production and quality standards;Provides the team with the scope of the project objectives;Meets project objectives by forecasting job requirements and potential barriersWorks with established priorities, controls process and works with presenting solution to resolve issues to maintain project goals.Assures compliance with corporate regulations pertaining to Human Resources and Safety.Works to improve production processes and procedures.Work Experience/EducationHigh School Diploma or G.E.D. 10 years as a structural steel and equipment experience. An advanced degree or training in a related discipline may substitute for 3 years of experience.Specialized Skills & Knowledge Certificates & LicensesDemonstrated knowledge in the areas of: Applicable federal and state building codes and ordinances; production/material specifications related to the fabrication and erection of structural steel. Demonstrated ability to coordinate work/ship schedules; ability to generate and comprehend functional statistical data and financial information.Software & TechnologyThe position will require the frequent use of MS Office Suite and Bluebeam PDF. Working knowledge of STRUM.I.S. or other production control software preferred.Work EnvironmentPosition requires as many hours as needed to fulfill the daily and weekly obligations required to carry out the functions. Working long days including evenings and weekends can be required for this position. This position is generally outdoors within the plant facilities. Plant walkthroughs and visitations may occur where exposure to typically hot, cold or wet conditions occurs. Wearing of proper safety equipment is essential. Temporary living arrangements will be determined prior to departure to the job site assignment.
