Job summary

Schuff Steel in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Production Planning Engineer to develop and execute fabrication schedules that align with project milestones and delivery targets.

You will coordinate across shops and departments to ensure production meets schedules, attend cross-functional meetings, and drive productivity improvements while managing constraints.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field.
  • 3+ years scheduling experience in fabrication or construction.
  • General knowledge of fabrication/construction methods, scheduling, and coordination.
  • Proficiency with Primavera, MS Project, and similar tools.
  • Ability to coordinate across departments and participate in project meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Build fabrication schedules for new projects.
  • Maintain fabrication schedules based on progress of activities.
  • Run What-if scenarios for fabrication assignments to various shops.
  • Analyze shop productivity and collaborate with Plant Managers to improve.
  • Coordinate with departments to align fab schedules with other tools.
  • Suggest opportunities for productivity improvements.
  • Forecast shop manpower needs using resource loading.
  • Participate in project meetings regarding schedule progress.
  • Develop fabrication indicators to measure shop performance.
  • Interface with Project Manager and sub-fabricators to schedule work and materials.

Job description

The Production Planning Engineer is essential in helping the organization develop and execute a plan to meet steel fabrication needs. This position is tasked with scheduling and progressing all steps required for steel fabrication through product delivery.

Key Performance Objectives
  • Builds Fabrication Schedules for new projects.
  • Maintains Fabrication Schedules based on progress of integral activities.
  • Runs What-if? scenarios for fabrication assignments to various shops.
  • Analyzes shop productivity and works with Plant Manager(s) to improve as needed.
  • Coordinates with various departments and aligns Fab Schedules with other departmental scheduling tools.
  • Advises on opportunities for productivity improvements.
  • Utilizes manpower resource loading to forecast shop manpower needs.
  • Facilitate and/ or participated in Project Meetings regarding schedule progress.
  • Develop fabrication indicators to measure shop performance.
  • Interfaces with Project Manager and necessary departments to assist in the scheduling of work and materials to and from sub-fabricators.
  • Tracks, understands, and reports on sub-fabricators adherence to the project schedule.
  • Works closely with Project Team in evaluating changes to the scope of work and impacts to the production schedule.
Education/Training
  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university preferred; or equivalate relevant work experience
Work Experience
  • Three or more years of related scheduling experience in the fabrication, and/or general construction industry.
Specialized Knowledge
  • General knowledge of fabrication and /or construction methods, processes, scheduling, and coordination.
Software & Technology
  • Scheduling software such as Primavera, Microsoft Project, and other similar scheduling tools.
Work Environment
  • Position requires as many hours as needed to fulfill the daily and weekly obligations required to carry out the functions. Working long days including evenings and weekends can be required for this position.
  • This position is generally indoors in a climate-controlled office. However, some visitations to the outdoor plant facilities can be required.
