Job summary

Overview

The Special Programs Interventionist, K-8 will be responsible for delivering targeted, data-driven reading and mathematics intervention to students in grades K-8 who require additional academic support. This position partners closely with teachers and school leaders to identify learning gaps, implement evidence-based intervention strategies, monitor student progress, and help accelerate academic growth through a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework.


Essential Duties


  • Student Intervention and Instruction

    • Deliver high-quality, small-group and individualized reading and mathematics intervention aligned with student needs and grade-level standards.

    • Provide targeted reteach instruction using evidence-based intervention strategies to support student academic growth.

    • Differentiate instruction to address varying skill levels and learning needs.

    • Utilize virtual learning platforms and instructional technology to engage students in a remote learning environment.

    • Foster positive relationships with students while creating an encouraging and supportive learning environment.



  • Progress Monitoring

    • Analyze assessment, benchmark, and progress monitoring data to identify students requiring intervention and adjust instructional plans accordingly.

    • Monitor student growth through ongoing formative and summative assessments.

    • Maintain accurate documentation of intervention services, student progress, and instructional adjustments.

    • Evaluate the effectiveness of intervention strategies and recommend modifications to improve student outcomes.



  • Collaboration and Student Support

    • Collaborate regularly with classroom teachers, instructional coaches, administrators, and support staff to align intervention with core instruction.

    • Participate in MTSS meetings and contribute data to support instructional decision‑making.

    • Communicate student progress and intervention recommendations with teachers, families, and school leadership as appropriate.

    • Support the implementation of school-wide academic intervention initiatives and best practices.




Knowledge, Skills & Attributes


  • A minimum 3 years of successful classroom teaching experience in reading, mathematics, or elementary education.

  • Demonstrated experience in a virtual or online teaching environment is essential. Minimum of 1–2 years of experience using the Google Workspace suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive) in a professional or academic setting.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas via written channels (Email, Google Chat, and Document Comments) with high clarity and low ambiguity.

  • Access to a private, secure, high-speed internet connection with a minimum of 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speeds.

  • Strong understanding of the Indiana Academic Standards for English/Language Arts and Mathematics across K-8 grade levels.

  • Knowledge of evidence-based literacy instruction aligned with the Science of Reading and effective mathematics instructional practices.

  • Experience administering, analyzing, and interpreting diagnostic, benchmark, and progress monitoring assessments to drive instructional decisions.

  • Ability to design, implement, and adjust individualized and small-group interventions based on student performance data.

  • Knowledge of the Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Response to Intervention (RTI) framework.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and support staff in a virtual environment.

  • Residency in Indiana is required.


Education & Certification Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, Reading, Mathematics, Special Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a closely related field. Master's degree preferred.

  • Valid Indiana teaching license appropriate for the grade level(s) and content area(s) served.

  • Elementary or middle school teaching licensure with authorization to teach reading and/or mathematics.

  • Reading Specialist, Exceptional Needs, English Learner, or other intervention‑related endorsement preferred.
