Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health in Belleville, NJ seeks a Special Procedures Technologist to support interventional radiology with physicians, assist in patient positioning, and operate radiologic and specialized procedural equipment in a fast-paced environment.

You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, maintain safety standards, participate in on-call coverage, and complete department training to ensure accurate charges and efficient procedures.

Qualifications

• Current ARRT certification as a Radiologic Technologist.
• Current state licensure/registration as required.
• BLS certification required.
• ACLS certification required.
• Prior radiology/CT/interventional or procedural experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of radiologic procedures, equipment, and radiation safety.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
• Ability to respond to call responsibilities during non-operational hours as required.
• Willingness to complete department-specific training and competency requirements.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside physicians during a variety of special and interventional procedures.
• Assist the physician with patient positioning, preparation, and procedural needs.
• Operate and maintain radiologic and specialized procedural equipment.
• Prepare procedure rooms and ensure equipment and supplies are available.
• Maintain inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies as needed.
• Document and maintain procedural charges and supplies used during procedures.
• Follow radiation safety, infection prevention, and patient safety protocols.
• Monitor and assist with patient care during procedures, communicating concerns.
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, anesthesia staff, and others for safe procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe procedural environment.
• Participate in on-call responsibilities, including coverage during non-operational hours.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

A typical day for a Special Procedures Technologist may include:

• Work alongside physicians during a variety of special and interventional procedures.
• Assist the physician with patient positioning, preparation, and procedural needs.
• Operate and maintain radiologic and specialized procedural equipment.
• Prepare procedure rooms and ensure all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
• Maintain appropriate inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies as needed.
• Accurately document and maintain procedural charges and supplies used during procedures.
• Follow established radiation safety, infection prevention, and patient safety protocols.
• Monitor and assist with patient care throughout procedures, communicating any concerns to the physician or appropriate clinical staff.
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, anesthesia personnel, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure safe and efficient procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe procedural environment.
• Participate in on-call responsibilities, including coverage during non-operational hours, as required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
