Job summary

Atrium Health is seeking an Interventional Radiology Technologist to support invasive angiography and related procedures in the Interventional Radiology Suite. You will scrub, circulate, and provide total patient care during and after procedures, under physician supervision.

The role requires ARRT certification or RCIS, BLS, and a background in diagnostic radiology with preference for Interventional Radiology experience.

Qualifications

• ARRT certification in Radiology or RCIS registry
• BLS certification required
• 1 year in diagnostic radiology and 1 year in Interventional Radiology preferred
• ACLS preferred
• Willingness to stand/walk with lead aprons during procedures
• Competency in patient positioning and planning for invasive procedures

Responsibilities

• Performs specialized radiography and fluoroscopic coverage under physician supervision
• Explains procedures to patients and preppt patients for procedures
• Obtains medications or contrast materials as directed
• Circulates during procedures and maintains patient comfort
• Provides supplies for invasive procedures
• Removes catheters and applies direct pressure as needed
• Reports and documents hemodynamic and contrast media data
• Notifies leadership of equipment malfunctions

Job description

CMC Tower Bed Expansion (CLT) - The new tower, a 448-bed tower, will have more than just hospital beds. At full occupancy, the new facility is expected to offer 191 new acute care beds, 38 operating rooms, 16 procedure rooms, a pod-style emergency department with 62 exam rooms, a new helipad, and an open core model for the nursing units on inpatient floors, designed to facilitate collaboration between workers and maximize visibility and access into patient rooms. Opens September 2027.

The function of the Interventional Radiology Technologist is to assist in the various invasive Angio, and interventional procedures performed in the Interventional Radiology Suite. Responsible for surgical scrub and circulation duties, performing total patient care during and post the procedure, while the patient is in the Interventional Radiology area.

Major Responsibilities

• Performs specialized radiography and fluoroscopic coverage of interventional and angiographic procedures under the direction of a physician.
• Explains the procedure to the patient and preps the patient for the procedure.
• Obtains medications, radiopharmaceuticals, or contrast materials as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner, authorized/certified technologist, or registered nurse.
• Circulates during the procedure and maintains responsibility for patient comfort.
• Provides supplies necessary for diagnostic and therapeutic invasive procedures.
• Removes catheters/sheaths and applies direct pressure or clamp as appropriate.
• Provides necessary report information to the holding area or nursing unit as needed.
• Records and processes hemodynamic reports, contrast media records and charges promptly and accurately.
• Communicates equipment malfunctions to leadership or department engineer for repairs.

Minimum Job Requirements

Education

Graduate of an institution accredited by an agency that ARRT recognizes in Radiologic Technology or RCIS graduate from a Cardiovascular Interventional Training Program

Certification / License

ARRT certification in Radiology or RCIS registry required BLS required

Work Experience

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Must meet all required elements of competency checklist for level.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Requires standing and walking while wearing 10 to 15-pound lead radiation protection aprons. Exposure to radiation, secretions and blood. Confined working area. Normal vision, manual dexterity and good eye and hand coordination is necessary to operate equipment. Constant concentration required during procedures.
