Special Procedures and Cath Lab Technologist

Full Time Days

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Special Procedures and Cath Lab Technologist will assist the Licensed Practitioner in fluoroscopic and specialized interventional procedures, maintaining sterile technique. They prepare, administer, and document activities related to medications and radiation exposure, complying with laws, regulations, and policies.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Perform high-quality diagnostic vascular lab examinations using ultrasound and physiologic testing equipment, following exam protocols unless deviation is clinically necessary.
  2. Prepare patients for procedures, explaining the process and providing instructions to obtain desired results, cooperation, and reduce anxiety.
  3. Contact referring physicians for clarification if the exam order appears incorrect.
  4. Use the hospital electronic medical record to review patient information, enter reports, and document critical findings per department policy.
  5. Complete tasks within appropriate timeframes.
  6. Demonstrate behaviors aligned with the Mission and Values of Bon Secours Mercy Health and adhere to corporate standards and policies, including legal and ethical compliance.
  7. Follow safety, infection control, and confidentiality policies.
  8. Perform non-invasive vascular exams proficiently.
  9. Understand vascular anatomy, exam procedures, interpretation criteria, and correlate lab results with other hospital procedures.

Licensing/Certification

Required: Certification and Registration with ARRT or CCI; BLS (must obtain prior to patient care); ACLS (preferred); Certifications in Cardiovascular-Interventional and Vascular-Interventional Radiography (preferred); State Licensure (if required).

Education

Associate's degree from an ARRT-accredited institute (preferred).

Work Experience

At least 1 year in radiology, with surgery experience in CR (preferred).

Training

EPIC EHR and PACS (preferred).

Patient Population
  • Adolescents (13-17 years)
  • Adults (18-64 years)
  • Geriatrics (65+ years)
Working Conditions
  • May be exposed to physical altercations, verbal abuse, hazardous substances, body fluids, and blood.
  • May require use of restraints and work with frequent interruptions.

*Universal precautions, PPE, and infection control policies are mandatory.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, balancing, bending, sitting, walking, standing, and performing repetitive movements.
  • Must be able to maneuver patients and perform shift work, with manual dexterity, color vision, and acuity.
Additional Physical Requirements/Hazards
  • Exposure to electrical shocks, radiation, high-pitched noises, and other hazards.
Skills
  • De-escalation, physical interventions, motivational interviewing, patient-centered care, care planning, medical and safety screenings, teamwork, conflict resolution, active listening, relationship building, and effective communication with families and medical staff.
