Job summary

Madison County Schools Transportation Department in Richmond, Kentucky, is hiring seven Bus Monitors. The role supports a driver, assists students with special needs, and ensures safety on the bus, including operating the lift and securing wheelchairs.

Starting immediately, these full-time positions require a high school diploma or GED and completion of bus assistant training. Salary ranges from $14.50 to $16.99 per hour with non-exempt status.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of bus assistant training.
• Various duties as listed to support student mobility and safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist exceptional children on and off the bus and escort them across street upon return home; lift children as required.
• Operate equipment including wheelchairs, tie-downs, seat belts, harnesses, mechanical lift and other adaptive equipment as necessary.
• Assist driver in ensuring seat belts, harnesses and wheelchair clamps are secured as required.
• Assist parents and school personnel with safe loading and unloading of students; coordinate seating as required by guidelines.
• Document student information, records and route surveys with the driver.
• Attend in-service meetings and training courses as assigned.
• Monitor and assist students while the bus is in operation.
• Maintain knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures.
• Communicate with aides, teachers, principals and parents as appropriate.
• Maintain regular attendance.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
