  • Ensures projects follow established safety guidelines.
  • Ensures vehicles are properly equipped and maintained.
  • Handles public complaints.
  • Inspects road conditions, work-in-progress and work completed by crews and contractors.
  • Operates light and heavy roadway equipment.
  • Performs administrative duties such as maintaining records on materials, supplies and personnel.
  • Trains employees on equipment use and procedures.
  • Coordinates scheduling of equipment, materials, and personnel for a project.
  • Coordinates inventory and distribution of PPE, safety inspections, and incident reports.

Job description

Coordinates and schedules equipment, materials, and personnel for special transportation jobs and activities. Leads the work of specialized maintenance and/or technical workers. Work requires responding to emergency notification on an as needed basis. Work requires extensive contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
  • High School Grad or Equivalent in general education
Work Experience:
  • 5 YEARS in Roadway maintenance, construction, traffic systems management, or related work

(Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent) Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

  • This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical.
  • Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.- Please note that the Department of Transportation's Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulation - 49 CFR Part 40, at 40.151(e) - does not authorize "medical marijuana" under a state law to be a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test result for an employee in this position.
  • Must be able to report for duty within 60 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations.
  • Required to work weekends and holidays.
  • Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.
  • Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.
  • Employee may be contacted during off-duty hours to see if he or she can report to work for emergency conditions within 1 hour.
