Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation in Monahans, TX, seeks a Transportation Maintenance Lead to supervise a crew and perform skilled roadway maintenance. You will coordinate daily work, inspect roadways, and ensure safety standards while operating light and heavy equipment.

A Class A CDL is required or must be obtained within 30 days, with a valid driver’s license. Emphasis on emergency response readiness and team leadership.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of roadway maintenance experience required (full-time or prorated part-time).
  • Must have a Class A CDL or obtain CDL within 30 days of employment; valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a crew of maintenance technicians and equipment operators.
  • Oversee daily work assignments and provide updates to supervisor.
  • Inspect roads and report issues; supervise contractors.
  • Operate light and heavy highway equipment.
  • Train crew members on equipment usage.
  • Assist during accidents and emergency weather events; manage response of crews.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Transportation Mntnce Spec VI

Leads a crew of transportation maintenance technicians and equipment operators performing skilled transportation maintenance activities. Reports to a maintenance section supervisor and assists in administration of the maintenance section. Work requires responding to emergency notification on an as needed basis. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Essential Duties:
  • Assists during accidents and emergency weather situations to sand bridges and roads and put up warning signs, and organize response of crews.
  • Estimates and gathers materials and equipment necessary to complete assignments.
  • Inspects roads while in route to and from job site and reports problems to supervisors.
  • Inspects work performed by maintenance contractors.
  • Operates light and heavy equipment.
  • Performs some maintenance and repair on equipment and trains crew members on the use of equipment.
  • Serves as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments; serving as a resource for complex questions and troubleshooting of problems; presenting operational updates to the supervisor; providing input on team members’ career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operational coverage.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:

High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.

Experience:

5 years experience in roadway maintenance related work. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum

Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
