Job summary

Distinct Engineering Solutions, Inc. (DESI) seeks experienced Special Inspectors to support infrastructure projects across NYC and NJ. This field-based role emphasizes precision, safety, and compliance with NYC Building Code Chapter 17.

You will conduct on-site inspections, prepare reports, and coordinate with contractors, clients, and agencies. A PE license or ICC certifications strengthen candidacy; OSHA 30-Hour is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in Civil/Structural Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Architecture.
• Minimum 3+ years of inspection experience on NYC projects.
• Strong knowledge of NYC Chapter 17 inspection requirements and NYC/NJ construction safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform Special Inspections in accordance with NYC Building Code – Chapter 17.
• Conduct on-site inspections across diverse project types in NYC and NJ.
• Observe pile installations and geotechnical conditions for code compliance.
• Verify construction activities align with approved drawings and specifications.
• Prepare accurate, timely, and defensible inspection reports.
• Coordinate with contractors, project teams, clients, and regulatory agencies.
• Identify deficiencies and communicate corrective actions.
• Maintain strict adherence to jobsite safety requirements.
• Support additional inspection scopes as projects evolve.

Position Overview: Special Inspector

We are seeking experienced Special Inspectors to support a growing portfolio of construction projects across the five boroughs of NYC and parts of New Jersey. This is a hands-on, field-focused role involving major infrastructure upgrades and large-scale building developments.

What You’ll Do

What You Bring

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Architecture
• Minimum 3+ years of inspection experience on NYC projects
• Strong working knowledge of Chapter 17 and related inspection requirements
• 5+ years of NYC/NJ construction inspection experience preferred

Licenses & Certifications

NY or NJ P.E. license (Preferred)

ICC Special Inspector Certifications (any of the following):

• Reinforced Concrete
• Structural Masonry
• Structural Steel & Bolting
• Structural Welding
• Soils
• Mechanical

ACI Certifications (any of the following):

• Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I

NICET certifications (Inspection & Testing of Water-Based Systems preferred)

OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety (required)
