Job summary

Kseng is seeking a Special Inspector to oversee construction operations and conduct field inspections across diverse project sites. The ideal candidate should possess strong supervisory abilities, technical skills, and effective communication skills.

Responsibilities include preparing field reports, ensuring adherence to project specifications, and conducting thorough inspections. The position requires physical capability to engage in field inspections and is open to applicants with relevant degrees and experience in NY or NJ.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year inspecting construction work in NY or NJ.
• Familiarity with concrete sampling and testing per ACI 318 & NYC building code.
• Willing to pursue professional development and training.

Responsibilities

• Travel to project sites daily for field inspections and testing.
• Prepare daily field reports and communicate deficiencies to stakeholders.
• Handle and inspect materials relevant to the job.

Job description

Position – Special Inspector

Reports to: Manager – Special Inspections

Technical Responsibilities

• Duties can include traveling to various project sites daily, monitoring construction operations, and using applicable field‑testing procedures and equipment to perform required field inspections and testing, as well as all related testing as required by the project and client to determine conformance with project plans and specifications.
• Preparation of daily field reports, communication of deficiencies observed in the field to project managers, contractors, and/or client representatives, and the interpretation of project–related drawings and documents.
• Possesses strong supervisory and technical skills, effective time‑management skills, strong computer skills, excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to follow project specifications.
• Possesses a thorough knowledge of construction processes.
• Responsive to Client and other KSE Manager/ needs, and all other duties as assigned.

Physical Responsibilities

• Handle, inspect, and/or feel materials and/or equipment relevant to the job.
• Communicate with colleagues, supervisors, and clients using company email and telephone systems.
• Move around on the job site, including ascending or descending on the landscape or on a ladder, and positioning oneself appropriately to assess necessary testing materials and equipment, usually for prolonged periods of time.
• Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs for some types of monitoring and inspections.
• This position requires physical ability to perform field inspections.
• Ability to work in diverse weather conditions.
• Extended periods of standing and walking possibly on uneven or challenging terrains.
• Climbing, bending, kneeling.
• Working long hours.

Educational Requirements

• HS Degree or Equivalent, OR Bachelor of Science in Structural or Civil Engineering.

Experience

• 1 year in inspecting construction work in the city of NY OR NJ, varied in size and complexity.
• Detail Oriented.
• Familiarity with concrete sampling and testing as per requirements of ACI 318 & section 1704.4 of the NYC building code.

Professional Licenses/Registrations

• ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician Grade 1.
• OSHA 30 or OSHA 10 (Preferred).
