Great Hearts Academies is seeking a Special Education Teaching Assistant (6-12) for Glendale Preparatory Academy in Peoria, AZ. The role supports students in general and special education settings under certified teachers, with emphasis on SDI concepts and behavior management.

Qualifications

• Two years of higher education or passing ADE assessment.
• Experience in special education preferred.

Responsibilities

• Academic Support: work with students in small groups or 1:1; assist with assignments, homework, projects; adapt materials and provide modifications.
• Behavior Support: monitor student behavior and safety; implement behavior strategies; help develop social skills and positive behaviors.
• Additional Support: assist with transitions, personal hygiene needs, mobility and equipment; provide clerical support for the ESS Team.
• Additional Duties: attend meetings and trainings; maintain a clean, organized workspace; foster a positive learning environment.

The assistant will work to support students in all settings on campus under the direction of and in collaboration with the certified Special Education teachers and General Education teachers. Associate degree (preferred) **or** two years/60 credit hours of higher education **or**a passing score on an appropriate ADE assessment.**Required/Preferred Experience:** Has experience in special education.**Required/Preferred Skills:** Excellent oral and written communication skills, and an interest in reading great books.**Physical Functions:** Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching.
