Special Education Teacher - Visually Impaired

Description:The Teacher of the Visually Impaired provides specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments.This includes supporting students with blindness and low vision.The Teacher collaborates with educators, families, service providers, and school leaders.The goal is to ensure students have access to the curriculum.Students will develop skills for academic, social, and independent success.

Key Responsibilities:Provide direct instructional services to students with visual impairments.Adapt curriculum, materials, and assessments to meet individual student needs.Teach Braille, assistive technology, and other compensatory skills as appropriate.Support student mastery of grade-level academic standards.Participate in evaluation, development, and implementation of Individualized Education Programs.Monitor and document student progress toward set goals.Attend and contribute to meetings regarding student plans.Ensure accommodations and modifications are implemented effectively.Work closely with general education teachers and special education staff.Provide recommendations for classroom adaptations and accessibility.Train staff on strategies for supporting students with visual impairments.Build strong partnerships with students' families.Assess and recommend assistive technology and adaptive equipment.Support students in using technology that promotes independence and access to learning.Ensure instructional materials are available in accessible formats.

Qualifications:Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.Valid Teacher Certification.Certification or eligibility as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments.Knowledge of Braille and visual impairment accommodations.Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision.Knowledge of Expanded Core Curriculum.Experience with assistive technology and accessible instructional materials.Experience in a comprehensive educational setting.
