Job summary

Wilmington Public Schools seeks a Special Education Teacher for the Stepping Stones Program at Shawsheen School in Wilmington, MA. The incumbent will design instructional strategies, adapt curricula, and support students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs.

You will conduct assessments, participate in IEP meetings, collect data, mentor educational assistants, and liaise with families while maintaining confidential information and complying with special education regulations.

Qualifications

  • Experience with students with social, emotional and behavior disabilities in a therapeutic setting.
  • Experience writing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and progress reports.
  • Extended year components in accordance with students’ IEPs.
  • Professional licensure and endorsements as required by MA DESE.

Responsibilities

  • Designs instructional strategies and adapts general curriculum to meet individual student needs.
  • Conducts academic assessments/evaluations and participates in IEP meetings.
  • Collects and analyzes student data to measure IEP goal progress.
  • Collaborates with school psychologist, BCBA, admin and service providers on behavioral plans.
  • Directs Educational Assistants to maximize instructional delivery and data collection.
  • Liaises with families and stewards confidential information.

Job Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates a strong knowledge of program design, curriculum and instruction, and behavior management
  • Plan effective instructional strategies for adapting or modifying general curriculum to meet the various needs of individual students
  • Conduct academic assessments/evaluations of student abilities and needs and serves as a member of IEP meetings
  • Collect and analyze student performance data to determine the extent to which student IEP goals and objectives are being met
  • Assist students with both academic and social/emotional goals as stated in Individualized Education Plans
  • Assist, support and work in collaboration with school psychologist, district BCBA, administration, and all other related service providers in the development, implementation and revision of student behavior plans
  • Implement Behavioral and Functional Assessments for students
  • Instruct and direct assigned educational assistant(s) to maximize delivery of instructional services, behavior management and data collection techniques
  • Act as a liaison between home and school
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to consult effectively with educational assistants, teachers, administration, and parents
  • Maintain integrity of confidential information regarding students
  • Understanding and familiarity with Special Education process and regulations
  • Other duties as assigned by building administrators

Job Requirements
  • EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with students identified with social, emotional and behavior disabilities in a therapeutic setting
    • Knowledge of research based practices for providing therapeutically based interventions for students who need support with emotional regulation
    • Experience writing Individualized Education Plans and progress reports
  • ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • Extended year component in accordance with the students' Individualized Education Plans
    • MA DESE License: Moderate Disabilities PreK-8
    • Safety Care Certification
    • SEI Endorsement
  • At least 4 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
  • Master degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
