Job summary

Wilmington Public Schools is hiring an Educational Assistant - STAGES for the Woburn Street School in Wilmington, Massachusetts. This full-time role includes a six-week summer component and a salary of $20 to $25 per hour.

You will support students with IEPs, collaborate with teachers on instruction, and help implement accommodations, PBIS strategies, and data collection under supervision.

Qualifications

  • Three (3) plus years in a school setting or working with students with various needs.
  • Experience supporting students behaviorally, academically and emotionally.
  • Experience with specialized instructional practices including ABA methodologies, behavior plans and/or specific learning disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Support students within and outside of the general education classroom according to their IEP.
  • Assist in the classroom as the teacher deems appropriate (small group instruction, breaks, modifications).
  • Work with moderate/severe special needs populations (LD, ED, autism, etc.).
  • Implement current IEP and data collection under supervision.
  • Implement accommodations per IEPs/504 Plans/Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Supervise students during parts of the day.
  • Assist with mobility, self-care, and daily functioning as needed under supervision.
  • Participate in professional development and PBIS strategies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional relationships.
  • Attend staff meetings as designated by Educational Assistant Contract.

Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support students within and outside of the general education classroom according to their IEP (Individual Educational Program)
  • Work with the classroom teacher and assist in the classroom as the teacher deems appropriate. This may include, but not limited to, small group instruction, giving frequent breaks, making modifications for students and working with diverse learning styles
  • Work with moderate and/or severe special needs population, such as learning disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism, or intellectual disabilities
  • Implement current IEP and data collection under supervision of school or district staff
  • Assist school staff by implementing student accommodations according to individual IEPs, 504 Plans, Behavior Intervention Plans, and/or the District Curriculum Accommodation Plan.
  • Work with students to implement accommodations and modifications
  • May be required to supervise students during various times of the work day (ie: morning, afternoon, lunch and recess)
  • May assist students with mobility, transitions, self-care (toileting, feeding, dressing), and implementing IEP related care plans, requiring lifting, bending, and working with adaptive equipment, under teacher supervision, to support learning and daily functioning for students with disabilities. Specific responsibilities based on age/grade level and needs of students
  • Ability to participate in professional development and training opportunities to support student needs
  • Implement PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports) strategies
  • Maintain professional working relationships with all staff
  • Attend staff meetings as designated by Educational Assistant Contract
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of their work with all students and staff.
  • Other related duties as assigned by Principal or designee

Job Requirements
  • EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
    • Three (3) plus years in a school setting or working with students with various needs
    • Experience supporting students behaviorally, academically and emotionally
    • Experience with specialized instructional practices including ABA methodologies, behavior plans and/or specific learning disabilities
    • Safety Care Training preferred; candidates who have not previously completed the training will receive training through WPS.
    • Coursework or classes in the field of education, social work, or child development
  • At least 3 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
  • Master degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
