Job summary

Montgomery-Public-Schools seeks a Special Education Teacher – Self-Contained to create a classroom environment conducive to learning and growth for students with disabilities. The teacher will collaborate with staff and families to implement individualized plans and ensure progress toward standards.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree or higher, Alabama professional certification, and ESSA compliance. The position offers a 9-month schedule with a signing bonus for first-year certified staff

Qualifications

• Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to create a productive learning environment.
• Ability to analyze data, interpret laws and policies relevant to the work.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Effective oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, counselors and service providers to support students needing special education services.
• Develop and implement individualized education plans and transition plans.
• Guide students to meet objectives and master grade-level standards.
• Instruct students in citizenship and basic subjects per state policies.
• Develop lesson plans and materials aligned with curriculum; provide individual and small-group instruction.
• Translate plans into engaging learning experiences to maximize instructional time.
• Evaluate student progress, prepare reports, and maintain attendance and records.
• Communicate with parents/guardians about progress and concerns.
• Supervise students and manage movement to resources and facilities.
• Administer standardized testing.
• Use current technology for instruction and management.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
