Job Description

Full‑Time Substitute Special Education Teacher is a state‑certified teacher responsible for delivering specific course content in an online environment. The teacher will provide instruction, support, and guidance; manage the learning process; and focus on students’ individual needs as defined by each student’s Individualized Education Program. The teacher will obtain additional Special Education licenses in a minimum of three states, with up to five preferred, and will serve students across multiple schools on an approximate six‑ to twelve‑week rotating timeframe between schools. Position Details

Full‑time, 40+ hours per week. Requires a professional home office without distraction. The position may be performed in a time zone other than the employee’s residence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Make modifications and accommodations to Stride K12 lessons and assessments as specified by the IEP
  • Ensure inclusion and success of students in the general‑education classroom
  • Collect data and work samples to monitor student progress toward Individual Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives
  • Document all contact with parents and interventions with students
  • Analyze student data to prescribe remediation and enrichment as needed
  • Provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences
  • Commit to personalizing learning for all students
  • Demonstrate belief in all students’ ability to succeed and meet high expectations
  • Maintain grade book, ensuring academic integrity, placement and promotion decisions, alerting administrators to performance concerns
  • Prepare students for high‑stakes standardized tests
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with families and communicate with students, learning coaches, and parents in a timely manner
  • Support learning coaches/parents with curricular and instructional issues and troubleshoot in the virtual classroom as per academy policies
  • Ensure all special‑education and related services are provided as determined by the IEP team by:
    • Communicating with parents and related‑service staff to ensure appropriate therapies
    • Developing progress reports and other state‑specific required documentation
    • Using provided resources to provide accommodations and modifications, including assistive technology, supplemental curriculum, and accessible text
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Active State Special Education teaching license
  • Clear required background check
  • Additional Special Education licenses in a minimum of three states, with up to five preferred by first day of employment
Other Required Qualifications
  • Collaborate with other teachers to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data to drive instructional decisions
  • Receptive to receiving coaching on a regular basis with administrators
  • Embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working with students across grade levels
  • Experience supporting adults and children in technology use
  • Experience teaching online (virtual) and/or in a brick‑and‑mortar environment
  • Experience with online learning platforms
Compensation & Benefits

Stride, Inc. considers education, experience, and qualifications, as well as the position’s work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel, and market conditions when determining salary. Offers will typically be in the bottom half of the range, $43,000–$50,000. Eligible employees may receive a bonus. Salary is not guaranteed and can vary. Benefits may include health, retirement contributions, and paid time off.
