Job summary

Cross Country Education in Manhattan Beach, CA is seeking a compassionate Moderate/Severe Special Education Teacher for a TK–5 SDC classroom. You will provide highly individualized instruction focused on functional academics, communication, and life skills.

Responsibilities include assessing progress, developing and implementing IEPs, attending meetings with families and multidisciplinary teams, and creating a structured classroom that supports engagement and independence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Master’s degree in Special Education or related field preferred.
• Valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential with Moderate/Severe or ESN authorization required/desired.

Position Overview

• Provide specialized instruction in a Moderate/Severe Special Day Class (SDC) setting for students in TK–5, focusing on functional academics, communication, life skills, and independence.
• Develop and implement highly individualized, modified curriculum and instructional plans based on each student’s unique learning and support needs.
• Conduct assessments, monitor student progress, and develop and implement IEPs, including participation in IEP meetings and collaboration with families and multidisciplinary teams.
• Create a structured, supportive classroom environment that promotes engagement, communication, independence, and successful participation in school routines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field preferred
• Valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential with authorization in Moderate/Severe Disabilities or Extensive Support Needs (ESN)
• Experience supporting students with moderate to severe disabilities in an SDC or similarly intensive special education setting, including functional academics, communication, and adaptive/life-skills instruction
