Job summary

Gloucester Township Public Schools in Gloucester Township, New Jersey, invites applications for a full-time Special Education Teacher at Ann Mullen Middle School. This position follows the GTEA contract with a 10-month year and comprehensive benefits.

Starting date is TBD; salary ranges between $64,290 and $109,356 per year based on experience and qualifications. Qualified candidates hold or are eligible for a New Jersey instructional certificate with appropriate endorsement for middle school

Qualifications

  • Holds or is eligible for a New Jersey Instructional Certificate with appropriate endorsement (i.e.: Elementary K-5 with Math/Language Arts Literacy/Science/Social Studies Specialization in grades 5-8; Teacher of Mathematics/Language Arts Literacy/Science/Social Studies; Teacher of Students with Disabilities or Teacher of the Handicapped).

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates competence in subject field(s) assigned and deemed highly qualified per standards established by NJDOE.
  • Provides activities and experiences to meet the needs, interests and abilities of students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Assesses the academic and behavioral status of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Participates in identifying and meeting pupil needs in cooperation with other professional staff members.
  • Establishes and maintains, with the support of administrators, standards of pupil behavior appropriate to the activity.
  • Maintains professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and develops general lesson plans related to established curriculum goals.
  • Takes reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
  • Makes a reasonable effort to cooperate professionally with other members of the staff.
  • Assists in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
  • Satisfactorily fulfills duty assignments during the course of the school day as assigned.
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.
  • Participates in professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
  • Performs such other tasks as may be from time to time assigned by the Principal or his/her Assistants within the scope of his/her employment and/or certification areas.
