Job summary

Manhattan Star Academy seeks a dedicated Special Education Teacher to support students with brain-based disabilities and other I/DD in a dynamic classroom setting. You will plan and deliver individualized lessons, support behavioral goals, and collaborate with therapy staff to implement recommendations.

The role requires NYS Special Education certification or progress toward it, plus experience with school-aged populations and strong parental communication.

Qualifications

• Current certification in special education or pursuing certification with timeline.
• Experience in working with school-age children with I/DD or brain-based disabilities.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with families and teams.

Responsibilities

• Oversees a classroom of students with I/DD or brain-based disabilities.
• Prepares lessons and provides instructional and behavioral support.
• Incorporates social skills into daily lesson plans.
• Collaborates with the student’s therapy team and implements recommendations.
• Documents annual goals and participates in IEP processes and meetings.
• Maintains regular communication with parents and involves them in progress.
• Supervises paraprofessionals and teaching assistants in the classroom.
• Applies multisensory approaches using art, music, and technology.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
