Job summary

Alvord Independent School District is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to provide tailored learning activities and experiences for students, developing or modifying curricula and preparing lessons aligned to IEP goals.

The role requires collaboration with ARD teams, family communication, and use of technology in instruction. Involves assisting in classrooms, supervising aides, and contributing to a supportive school environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from accredited university
• Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignments
• Knowledge of ARD Committee process and IEP goal setting
• Experience: at least one year student teaching or approved internship

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop IEP through ARD for each student
• Implement instructional or therapeutic programs and document preparation
• Plan and use instructional strategies reflecting students' learning styles
• Modify regular curricula and assist SE students in regular classes
• Participate in ARD Committee meetings
• Assess learning styles and plan activities
• Present subject matter according to IEP guidelines
• Use varied instructional techniques and media
• Supervise teacher aides and volunteers
• Use technology in the teaching/learning process
• Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement
• Provide or supervise personal/medical care as stated in IEP
• Be a positive role model and support district mission
• Create a conducive learning environment
• Manage student behavior per IEP
• Consult with staff and resource personnel
• Protect students and materials
• Assist in selecting instructional materials
• Maintain professional communication with families and staff
• Attend faculty meetings and serve on committees
• Staff development participation
