Qualifications

  • Meet suitability criteria under Alabama Child Protection Act and related acts.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills for working with diverse groups.
  • Ability to develop and implement curriculum for designated grade levels and subjects.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and solve problems.
  • Proficient use of technology to plan instruction, communicate, manage data, and prepare reports.
  • Physically capable of performing job responsibilities.
  • Punctual and maintain regular attendance.
  • Such alternatives as the Board may require.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates support for the school system’s vision, goals, and priorities.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of child development and student characteristics for the assigned age group.
  • Applies prescribed curriculum, current educational research, and best instructional practices.
  • Uses technology to plan, deliver instruction, and facilitate learning.
  • Models and promotes technology integration in the classroom.
  • Maintains safe, orderly student supervision and learning environments.
  • Provides instruction and adaptations for students with special needs, including ELL and exceptional education students.
  • Selects and adapts materials to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Establishes routines and uses effective behavior management.
  • Creates a challenging yet non-threatening learning climate.
  • Assists with state and standardized testing and ensures testing environments.
  • Organizes time, materials, and routines for effective instructional delivery and admin tasks.
  • Instructs and supervises student teachers, volunteers, and paraprofessionals as assigned.
  • Uses ongoing assessments to monitor progress and uses data for planning.
  • Encourages self‑assessment and helps students set improvement plans.
  • Communicates progress to students, parents, and colleagues clearly and timely.
  • Maintains high learning expectations aligned with real-world contexts.
  • Promotes critical, creative, and evaluative thinking.
  • Imparts safety procedures and proper handling of materials and equipment.
  • Fosters responsible behavior and respect for diversity.
  • Recognizes signs of distress or abuse and acts appropriately.
  • Participates in state‑approved evaluation programs.
  • Supervises students during duties and supports extracurricular activities.
  • Serves on committees and contributes to school improvement efforts.
  • Engages in professional growth, adheres to ethical standards, and exercises sound judgment.
  • Maintains confidentiality and reports issues promptly.
  • Proactively identifies potential problems and opportunities for improvement.
  • Reports irregularities to appropriate staff and responds to inquiries.
  • Maintains and submits reports and correspondence timely.
  • Uses and maintains school equipment responsibly and supervises student use.
  • Adheres to policies and procedures and ensures substitutes are arranged when needed.
