Job summary

Charyl Stockwell Academy district in Brighton/Howell area is hiring a full-time Special Education Teacher to provide instruction and support for students with special needs, ensuring appropriate educational services and accommodations.

The candidate will develop IEPs, deliver instruction in various settings, and collaborate with general education staff to promote inclusive practices. A Michigan teaching credential with SPED endorsement is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Special Education. Master's degree is a plus.
• Valid teaching certification/license in Michigan for Elementary or secondary education with an endorsement in Special Education
• Experience working with students with disabilities, including experience developing and implementing IEPs
• Strong knowledge of best practices and research related to special education and disabilities
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and assessing educational activities

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that meet the curriculum standards and cater to diverse learning styles.
• Develop assessments and evaluate student performance through tests, quizzes, projects, and presentations.
• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs
• Deliver direct instruction to students in various settings, including small groups and co-taught classrooms, using evidence-based strategies tailored to students’ learning profiles
• Provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities, including academic, behavioral, and social-emotional interventions
• Collaborate with general education teachers and other school staff to ensure that students with special needs are included in all aspects of school life
• Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instruction and interventions as needed
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and services provided
• Stay up-to-date on best practices and research related to special education and disabilities
• Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the institution
• Maintain a safe and positive environment for all students
• Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff
• Regular and predictable attendance
