Job summary

Montgomery Public Schools seeks an Exceptional Education Teacher to implement educational programs for students with disabilities in accordance with IEPs. You will collaborate with the Principal, Exceptional Education Director, and Assistant Director.

Responsibilities include developing and implementing IEPs, employing diverse instructional strategies, using data to plan instruction, and maintaining confidentiality while engaging in professional growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Alabama teaching certificate in special education.
  • Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure.
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration.
  • Ability to develop and implement curriculum for assigned students.
  • Ability to use technology to communicate, plan, instruct, manage data, and produce reports.
  • Physical strength, mobility, and stamina to perform job responsibilities.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and assist with toileting and hygiene needs.
  • Ability to transfer and feed students and provide physical intervention when required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of child development and disabilities.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the prescribed curriculum.
  • Participates in the development of students’ IEPs as a member of the IEP team.
  • Implements students’ IEPs.
  • Schedules IEP meetings.
  • Employs instructional strategies to meet individual needs.
  • Monitors student participation and provides materials or modifications as needed.
  • Uses technology to plan and provide instruction and facilitate learning.
  • Models and integrates instructional technology in the classroom.
  • Creates long-range instructional plans based on priorities and IEPs.
  • Sets goals for lesson plans and objectives.
  • Selects and adapts materials to support objectives.
  • Maintains a clean and organized learning environment.
  • Engages in behavior management techniques.
  • Organizes procedures for efficient instructional time and admin tasks.
  • Interprets data for instructional planning and program evaluation.
  • Uses ongoing assessments to monitor progress.
  • Communicates high expectations for all students.
  • Supervises extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Supports school improvement initiatives.
  • Engages in professional growth and ethics.
  • Maintains confidentiality as required by law.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement.
  • Responds timely to inquiries.
  • Maintains and submits reports and records.
  • Cares for equipment and resources.
  • Follows policies and laws.
  • Reports absences and takes leave per policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisors.
