Job summary

Henry County Schools seeks an Exceptional Student Education Teacher to plan, deliver, and assess specialized instruction for students with disabilities. The role focuses on developing IEPs/ILPs, collaborating with families and staff, and documenting progress with accuracy.

You will implement data-driven strategies, ensure compliance with policies, and participate in district and school meetings. This position is based on-site in Georgia with 190 work days and a teacher salary schedule.

Qualifications

• Hold or be eligible for a valid Georgia Educator Certificate or meet the district's professional qualifications.
• Ability to maintain highly confidential information professionally.
• Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, and the community.
• Must abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
• Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
• Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
• Must perform tasks involving standing, walking, and sitting for prolonged periods.
• Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Meet needs of students with severe disabilities (lifting, feeding, toileting, as appropriate).
• Able to supervise students, especially during emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials.
• Assist with initiation and completion of the eligibility/IEP process.
• Develop and monitor the IEP/ILP for each student on the caseload.
• Collaborate with parents/guardians about the child's program.
• Maintain and submit paperwork within designated timelines.
• Collaborate with general education or Related Services staff to maximize achievement.
• Maintain lesson plans per policies/directives.
• Deliver instruction aligned to IEPs/ILPs using data-driven strategies.
• Implement data-driven behavior management (FBAs/BIPs).
• Use formative and summative assessments to report progress to families.
• Ensure due process safeguards are provided to students and families.
• Adhere to district policies and federal/state regulations.
• Serve as a resource to general education teachers.
• Maintain prompt and professional communication with parents.
• Participate in district and school meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
