Qualifications

  • Massachusetts DESE Special Education license for Moderate Disabilities (5-12) preferred.
  • Massachusetts DESE Licensure in High School History/Social Science required.
  • Strong knowledge of Massachusetts History and Social Science Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Experience with students with emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges preferred.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide History/Social Science instruction aligned with Massachusetts frameworks.

Job Description

NFI Massachusetts, Inc. is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher - High School History/Social Science to provide academic instruction and individualized educational services to students within a Department of Mental Health funded Intensive Residential Treatment Program (IRTP) in Westborough, MA. This position supports students with complex emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs within a structured therapeutic environment while ensuring compliance with DESE and IDEA regulations.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized and small group History/Social Science instruction aligned with Massachusetts History and Social Science Curriculum Frameworks
  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals, accommodations, and modifications
  • Modify curriculum and instructional strategies to support diverse learning profiles
  • Utilize trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and evidence-based instructional practices
  • Integrate social-emotional learning and executive functioning supports into instruction
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment
  • Support students during periods of emotional and behavioral dysregulation using therapeutic and crisis-management strategies
  • Participate in crisis prevention and intervention training and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support student stabilization
  • Participate in IEP meetings, treatment planning, and multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Maintain accurate student records, progress reports, and required DESE documentation
  • Collaborate with families, school districts, clinical providers, and residential staff to support student success
Position Details
  • Salary Range: $60,000-$75,000
  • Full-time, based on a 190-day school-year position with optional ESY opportunities
  • Small class sizes with multidisciplinary team support
  • Specialized school setting within a secure DMH IRTP program
  • Reports directly to the Special Education Coordinator

This position is not eligible for participation in the Massachusetts Teachers' Retirement System (MTRS).

Job Requirements
  • Massachusetts DESE Special Education Teacher License - Moderate Disabilities (5-12) preferred
  • Massachusetts DESE Licensure in High School History/Social Science required
  • Strong knowledge of Massachusetts History and Social Science Curriculum Frameworks
  • Experience working with students with emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges preferredStrong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
