Job summary

Grafton is seeking a Special Education Teacher to empower learners with complex needs and support students in Virginia. You will plan lessons, develop IEP goals, and collaborate with educators and clinicians to create a cohesive program. You will guide instructional assistants and manage classroom progress documentation.

The role emphasizes ongoing professional development, teamwork, and a commitment to student growth, safety, and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Requires bachelor’s or masters in special education or related field.
• Requires Virginia teaching license or eligibility for conditional license.
• Prefer 1 year of experience teaching students with special educational needs; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Requires State Teaching Certificate in Special Education
• Behavior management program(s) (such as MANDT certification and UKERU certification)
• A valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Plans and implements academic lessons, activities and plans for students in an assigned program.
• Assesses student academic abilities and educational needs; develops goals and objectives for IEPs.
• Leads the work of Instructional Assistants who assist with planning and daily lessons.
• Documents and evaluates student progress and prepares program related reports.
• Participates in conferences and workshops to stay current with trends.
