Job summary

Grafton in Berryville, AR is seeking a Career & Technical Education Teacher to implement instruction and support student career development under supervision. You will coordinate work-based learning, assess interests, and collaborate with teachers, clinicians, and partners to place students in internships.

Job Summary

Under general supervision, plans and implements career and technical education instruction, including assisting general teachers in development of areas of specialization, lesson plans, and activities. Assesses student’s career abilities, interests, and skills on an annual basis. Provides recommendations to the students’ treatment team regarding ongoing career development. Ensures student access to work placements through collaboration with the internal and external community. Reports to the Principal or Assistant Principal.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Research potential internship placements and initiates contact with external business partners in order to facilitate establishment of student placement(s).
  • Manage the Greenhouse – This includes leaf blowing in the fall, weeding of the school grounds, planting around campus.
  • Develop community partnerships – Claremont Farm, Blandy and Serenity Farm
  • Ensure that OSHA kits are stocked and that OSHA supplies are always available.
  • Identifies and facilitates work study placements with internal departments in order to establish on going partnerships.
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that roles and responsibilities regarding work study/internship placements are clearly established and maintained.
  • Provides direct instruction regarding employability skills such resume writing, photo resumes, interview skills, work hygiene, work behaviors.
  • Ensures that all career and technical education documentation is completed as appropriate. To include, internship agreements, power tool assessments and certifications, memorandums of understanding, etc.
  • Assesses students aged 14 and above, utilizing the Career and Technical Education Assessment, in order to identify career and technical education interests, abilities, strengths and needs. Based on assessment findings recommends skills to be addressed within the IEP.
  • Collaborates with teachers to provide technical support for career and technical education instruction including preparation of materials, modification of physical space, and identification of resources.
  • Makes recommendations to internal DRS contact regarding referrals.
  • Creates and maintains task analyses for career and technical education tasks.
  • Participates in IEP planning and presents assessment findings
  • Tracks stipend earnings and submits weekly to Principal or Assistant Principal for authorization.
  • Oversees video modeling for student instruction.
  • Collects data appropriate to the student’s needs, goals/objectives and maintains said data according to Grafton policy and standards.
  • Utilizes data to evaluate the effectiveness of provided academic lessons and teaching approaches and techniques and incorporates changes as necessary to ensure maximum benefit to the student. Reviews and evaluates student’s work.
  • Documents and reports on student progress regarding career and technical education goals; and consults with other members of the student treatment teams to share information, observations, etc. regarding student progress and behaviors.
  • Completes and submits all assessments required by state testing protocols as per annualized schedule.
  • Assists teachers in identifying and obtaining necessary career and technical education supplies and equipment.
  • Implements crisis intervention strategies as needed. Documents and reports all incidents in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Responds to inquiries from agencies, parents and/or guardians regarding student progress, goals, lessons, etc.
  • Prepares a variety of program related reports and documentation such as, treatment team notes, educational graphs, behavioral data sheets, ongoing progress reports, etc.
  • Attends conferences and workshops to keep abreast of professional trends, developments and techniques.
  • Create a schedule for the classrooms to raise the Flag according to protocol
  • Manage the Swap Shop
  • Keep the vending machines stocked
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in special education or a related field.
  • Requires a valid driver's license.
  • Requires a valid Virginia teaching license or eligibility for a provisional license.
  • Prefer 1 year of experience teaching students with special educational needs; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Requires certification as a greenhouse manager
