Qualifications

• Holds a valid Virginia or out-of-state teaching license in Special Education.
• Eligible for a Virginia teaching license in Special Education (must submit transcripts).
• Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialty(ies).
• Knowledge of pre-adolescent and adolescent growth and development.
• Knowledge of LCPS curriculum and division goals; ability to apply current research to instructional programs.
• Skill in using multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning; plan and implement lessons.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, administrators and parents; strong oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Continually assess student achievement and maintain assessment documentation for reporting purposes.
• Plan and implement instructional strategies and learning activities with appropriate materials.
• Manage student behavior to create a conducive learning environment.
• Coordinate instructional activities with other professionals to maximize learning opportunities.
• Participate in in-service and professional development activities and staff meetings.
• Communicate with students about progress and expectations; keep parents informed.
• Collaborate with counselors, librarians, and other staff to carry out schoolwide instructional activities.
