Job Description

Brenham Independent School District

Position: Special Education Teacher - Dyslexia

Department/School: Various Campuses

Pay Information: Teacher Compensation Plan, 182 days

Campus Principal: [To be specified]

FLSA: Exempt

Date Revised: April 2025

Primary Purpose

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.

Qualifications (Experience/Education/Certification)
  • Bachelor’s degree and valid Texas teaching certificate.
Major Responsibilities
  • Instructional Strategies: Plan, develop, and implement lesson plans that fulfill district requirements, reflect accommodations for student differences, and coordinate with special education teachers for curriculum modifications as per IEP guidelines.
  • Student Growth and Development: Assist students in improving study habits, conduct assessments, and provide remediation; sponsor extracurricular activities as appropriate.
  • Classroom Management and Organization: Create a conducive learning environment and manage student behavior.
  • Communication: Maintain open communication with students, parents, teachers, and administrators; participate in professional development.
  • Professional Growth: Engage in staff development, comply with regulations, and participate in meetings and committees.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned, including conserving electricity per district energy policies.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, curriculum, and current research.
  • Skills in classroom management, communication, instruction modification, and working with various equipment and computer tools.
Working Conditions

Maintain emotional control under stress; able to lift/carry at least 30 lbs.
