TEACHER – Cognitively Impairment (SCI/SXI)

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
2. A valid Michigan teaching certificate with an endorsement in cognitively impaired.
3. Willingness to participate in all phases of the instructional program, including toilet training, diapering and clean up.
4. Experience teaching the cognitively impaired.
5. Ability to relate to students as individuals.
6. Patience in instruction and the ability to be satisfied with seeing small increments in progress during the student's school year.
7. Ability to respond appropriately to challenging behavior.
8. The ability to lift and balance 40-60 pounds.
9. Ability to provide leadership to paraprofessionals by communication, demonstration and example.
10. Crisis Prevention Institute certification or willingness to obtain.
11. Must pass criminal background check as required by School Safety Legislation.

ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES SHALL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

1. Plan curriculum for all assigned students, with assistance and direction from the principal and other professional personnel.
2. Analyze and chart skills of students.
3. Establish instructional and behavioral objectives for students; update objective periodically to see that skills are being acquired.
4. Establish discipline techniques for classroom in accordance with school policies, as established by the principal and the ISD Special Education Division.
5. Order equipment and supplies for classroom, under supervision.
6. Cooperate in planning curriculum with other teachers of severely cognitively impaired classes and other professional personnel.
7. Other assignments as determined by future course of events.
8. Direct paraprofessionals responsible to the teacher in their classroom duties.

WORK YEAR: 206 Days

SALARY: Per Macomb Intermediate Federation of Teachers Master Agreement Credit for previous teaching experience

2025-26 Starting Salary Range: $63,188-$110,061
