Job summary

The Grand Rapids Public Schools unit at Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Academy (PreK-8) seeks a TEACHER – SPECIAL EDUCATION (ASD). The role focuses on planning instruction, adapting curricula for scholars with IEPs, and serving as case manager to ensure IEP compliance.

Starting date is to be determined; compensation follows the district salary schedule based on degree and licensed experience, with the Master Agreement's terms guiding progression and benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education with endorsement in at least one area of special education (ASD, EI, CI, SLD, PI, HI, VI, TBI, etc.).
• Current appropriate Michigan special education teaching certification.
• Experience teaching the International Baccalaureate curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for scholars based on evaluation data and research-based practices.
• Support scholar learning in the least restrictive environment.
• Differentiate instruction to ensure scholar progress per the district’s Academic Plan.
• Document scholar progress on goals and objectives, accommodations, service time, and discipline/suspensions.
• Monitor and document provision of educational services for scholars on caseload with 10+ days of suspension.
• Collaborate with service providers, general education teachers, and staff to assist in providing support and documentation for evaluation data.
• Provide support to general education classroom teachers.
• Develop and evaluate the effectiveness of behavior support plans.
• Attend meetings and contribute to district initiatives related to special education.
