Job summary

The Summit Center in Amherst, NY is seeking a Special Education Teacher to lead a collaborative classroom team and deliver tailored instruction for students with developmental challenges.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education required.
  • Masters degree in Special Education preferred.
  • NYS Special Education Permanent certificate or Students with Disabilities certificate or actively working toward certification.

  • Serve as the case manager overseeing progress and support of assigned students.
  • Establish and monitor individual casebooks, data collection, and charting systems.
  • Manage behavioral challenges and supervise aides assigned to the classroom.
  • Ensure appropriate curriculum is established and implemented.
  • Organize an effective classroom environment and apply appropriate instructional strategies.
  • Collaborate with families and external service providers and coordinate with Support Service Personnel.

Pay: $61,500 with no certification, $64,575/year with certification & sign-on bonus available

Location: Amherst, NY

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM, 37.5 hrs./week

Your Impact as a Special Education Teacher

As a Special Education Teacher, you will lead a collaborative team and manage all aspects of your classroom environment. You will provide tailored instruction to meet each student’s unique needs, coordinate with professionals from various disciplines, and serve as the case manager responsible for overseeing the progress and support of your assigned students.

  • Assure that appropriate curriculum is established and implemented
  • Organize an effective classroom environment
  • Administer appropriate and effective instructional strategies

  • Demonstrate professional knowledge of children with developmental disabilities
  • Demonstrate professional writing skills

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree in Special Education required, Masters degree in Special Education preferred.
