Position Overview

As a Special Education Teacher, you will have the opportunity to create an impact in the lives of students that will last a lifetime. Being a part of this team means that you will find creative ways to empower students to think critically and creatively. Job duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Primary Duties

  1. The Special Education Teacher leads supports for Special Education and English Language Learner (ELL) students to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth.
  2. The Special Education Teacher will provide critical guidance to Lead Teachers to ensure that all staff are complying with and meeting the needs of Special Education and ELL students.
  3. Review weekly lesson plans and provide modifications, as necessary.
  4. Teach small groups in guided reading & math, using a research-based curriculum.
  5. Monitor referrals for scholars with special needs.
  6. Implement and adjust behavior interventions for scholars.
  7. Implement processes to monitor progress of exceptional students.
  8. Compile data for meetings, updates, and annual reports.
  9. Support teachers and paraprofessionals to implement interventions.
  10. Willingness to work occasional weekend or evening work hours required.

  1. Embody and maintain school’s values, policies, and culture.
  2. Develop positive relationships with students, families, teachers, staff, and community members.
  3. Establish and maintain strong communication with all families and share progress.
  4. Show up for critical school events, including staff meetings, open houses, parent-teacher conferences, and more.
  5. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is developmentally appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  6. Have fun and spread joy!

  2. Give and receive positive and constructive feedback with your colleagues.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree required.
  2. A passion for being a part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school culture.
  3. Pass criminal background check.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to closing the opportunity gap.
  1. By the time that employment begins, all teachers in our schools must meet certification requirements. There are a few ways to meet this requirement:
    1. Hold a valid Georgia Special Education Certification.
    2. Hold a valid teaching license that has successfully been transferred from another state that offers reciprocity with GA.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. 2 years of teaching experience.
  2. Demonstrated ability to raise achievement.
  3. Experience working in underserved/low-income communities.
