Qualifications

Responsibilities

The North Plainfield School District, a culturally diverse PreK through Grade 12 district in Somerset County serving approximately 3,600 students, is seeking a Special Education High School teacher to deliver high-quality, engaging instruction that promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, and academic achievement. The position begins January 2027.

The Special Education Teacher provides high-quality instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The teacher creates a positive learning environment that promotes academic achievement, personal growth, and the development of skills necessary for continued success while maintaining strong partnerships with families, colleagues, and support staff.

Instruction & Student Support

• Provide instruction to students in accordance with each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
• Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and learning experiences that address individual student needs.
• Provide individualized, small-group, resource, inclusive, and/or other instructional support as assigned.
• Establish and maintain standards of student behavior that promote a safe, positive, and productive learning environment.
• Monitor, document, and maintain records of student academic progress.
• Establish appropriate instructional objectives and use effective teaching strategies to support student achievement.
• Provide home instruction to eligible students when assigned.
• Collaborate with general education teachers to coordinate instruction, monitor student progress, and provide appropriate support.
• Consult and collaborate with Child Study Team members regarding student educational programs, academic progress, and personal growth.
• Participate in required meetings with case managers, families, and other professional staff to review and revise students' IEPs and educational placements.
• Participate in the development and implementation of district special education programs and initiatives.

Family & School Community

• Communicate effectively with families regarding school programs, student progress, and educational needs.
• Utilize appropriate school and community resources to enhance student learning and support.
• Participate in school-level planning, faculty meetings, committees, and other district or school-based activities.

Terms of Employment

10-month employee. Salary to be determined by the negotiated agreement with the Board of Education.

$69,630–$103,470, commensurate with education and experience.
