Job summary

Milestones Children’s Center, in collaboration with Little Lukes Preschool & Childcare Center, seeks a Special Education Teacher to support children in need with inclusive preschool instruction.

You will join a team including Lead Teachers, Speech Language Pathologists, and Therapists, dedicated to helping children grow, learn, and thrive in a supportive setting. Travel itinerant home positions may be available, with a focus on early childhood through school-age pediatrics.

Qualifications

• Observe, evaluate, and prepare reports on progress for IEPs of the children.
• Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal).
• Ability to share feedback across teams in a collaborative and solution-oriented way.

Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional care and instruction to preschool children with special needs (ages 3 to 5).
• Implement classroom management and create a positive learning environment.
• Observe, document, and prepare IEP progress reports; coordinate curriculum with the preschool team.

Choose fromschool-based preschool and childcare centers across Central,New York, including in East Syracuse, Baldwinsville,Fulton, Oswego, Camillus, Pulaski, and Watertown. Travelingitinerant home positions are also available in full timeor part time.

About the Special Education Teacher Role

We are on the lookout for a Special Education Teacher to joinour preschool team. In this role, you will work with ourphenomenal team of certified Lead Teachers, OccupationalTherapists, Physical Therapists, Speech LanguagePathologists, School Psychologist, and Certified TeacherAssistants and to support the children in our care.

• Provide exceptional care and instruction (80% time)
  • Support the development and education of preschoolchildren with special needs, ages 3 to 5 years,inside the classroom and alongside the Lead Teacher. Weare an InclusionPreschool and Childcare Center. Children withspecial needs are taught in the same classroom astypically developing children.
    
  • Teaches basic academic, behavior, social interactionand living skills using behavior modificationand positive reinforcement techniques.
    
  • Support the child’s understanding of the curriculumand behavior needs through strong,language-based, on-on-one interaction.
    
• Classroom Culture (10% time)
  • Implement effective classroom management, whenneeded. As an Inclusion Preschool andChildcare Center you will be working in the classroom,alongside the Lead Teacher.
    
  • Help to create a positive, engaging, and structured learningenvironment where children are encouraged to be curious andexcited to learn.
    
  • Help to set and reinforce classroom expectations and routines.
    
• Planning and Data Analysis (10%)
  • Observe, evaluate, and prepare reports on progress forIEPs of the children.
    
  • Document your work including notes, care plans andongoing progress in our paperless electronicrecord system.
    
  • Prepares goals and instructional materials accordingto the goals established by the IndividualEducation Plan. Coordinate curriculum implementationwith preschool team
    
  • Discuss the development of the IEP with parents,administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and others.
