Job summary

Area Cooperative Educational Services seeks a certified Special Education Teacher to join The ASCEND Program at Mill Road School in North Haven, CT. The role focuses on diverse learners, integrating curriculum and social-emotional learning while collaborating with families and community resources.

Qualifications

  • Connecticut teacher certification in special education required or eligible for DSAP.
  • Experience collaborating with families and community resources is favored.
  • Ability to develop and monitor individualized objectives based on assessments.
  • Proficiency with data collection and progress reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in PPT meetings, conferences, and related activities.
  • Plans instruction to achieve specific objectives and monitors behavioral goals.
  • Organizes time, space, materials, and personnel for effective instruction.
  • Utilizes diverse instructional materials and technology appropriately.

Job description

The ASCEND Program at Mill Road School is seeking a certified Special Education Teacher to join our team.Our program seeks to.provide a challenging, diverse learning environment which meets the individual and diverse needs of each student with special needs.to create an integrated curriculum which maximizes the use of technology and social-emotional learning to communicate effectively.to encourage partnerships with families and community resources for the purpose of enriching the educational programsto ensure a safe school environment through developing, implementing, and communicating clear expectations and guidelines for safety procedures; andto support students through graduation with academic and social-emotional needsThe successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:CommunicationEncourages communication to create a positive working and learning environment.Consults with members of the school community, parents and community agencies, demonstrating oral and written communication skills in an effective and responsible manner.ManagementAssists with the orderly scheduling and implementation of a transdisciplinary program.Organizes time, space, materials, equipment, and personnel for effective instruction and/or project completion.Develops and/or implements appropriate behavior management strategies.PlanningPlans instruction to achieve objectives.Develops and monitors behavioral objectives to meet learners' needs.Professional ResponsibilitiesParticipates in PPTs, conferences, meetings and other activities, as assigned.Participates in activities for self-growth, evaluation, and on-going professional improvement.Supports program and agency goals and acts as an advocate for students, including the maintenance of confidentiality.InstructionVaries instructional materials, activities and techniques including technological advances, as appropriate.Enhances student learning with resources and experiences from other educational and community agencies.Demonstrates data collection techniques for improved instructional decision making.Connecticut teacher certification in special education required.
