Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team at JPS Northeast Elementary. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for students with diverse learning needs. This full-time position requires collaboration with educators, parents, and support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that promote academic, social, and emotional growth.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt and modify curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
- Assess and evaluate students' progress regularly, adjusting instructional methods and goals as necessary.
- Provide direct instruction and support to students in both one-on-one and small group settings.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and fosters a sense of belonging.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding students' progress, challenges, and strategies for support at home.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, contributing to discussions about student needs and potential interventions.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, IEP documentation, and communication with families.
- Stay current with best practices in special education and participate in professional development opportunities.
- Advocate for students' needs within the school and the broader community.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid state teaching certification in Special Education.
- Experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of special education laws and regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Ability to create and implement engaging and effective lesson plans tailored to individual student needs.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment for all students.
- Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance instruction and communication.
