Description

The Bridge at ACES students found it challenging to succeed in the traditional classroom setting. They benefit from a personalized learning environment and form strong connections with school educators and peers. Our students can create their pathway to educational, social, and career success while working towards a high school diploma. The Bridge at ACES teachers develop educational opportunities for our students to gain knowledge in core academic areas (science, math, reading, writing, and social studies) along with project-based learning, career readiness, life skills, culinary, physical education, health and wellness, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, vocational education, and community-based projects with goal-driven outcomes. Our students will receive academic, community integration, social-emotional learning courses, wrap-around social work, and community services to ensure successful transitions back to their communities. We also provide reintegration services for six months after transitioning back to the local home schools or graduation, focusing on academic and community support.

ACES is seeking a dynamic Special Education Teacher committed to social justice and making a positive impact on youth at risk who have experienced difficult circumstances. Our candidate must have a strong knowledge base in special education law, co-facilitation, IEP development, and implementation and evaluation experience. Our teacher needs to be able to collaborate with content area teachers to create a rich academic experience for all students while providing tiered interventions for general education students. The Special Education teacher will also be expected to engage in team planning through professional learning communities.

Qualifications

Comprehensive Special Education, PreK-12 (#165) Cross-Endorsement

The requirements outlined on this page are general guidelines. Approval and/or acceptance of specific coursework will be determined once an application, fee, and official transcripts have been submitted for review.

Coursework requirements:
  • 30 semester hours of credit in special education, including coursework in each of the following areas:
    • Psychoeducational theory and development of handicapped children.
    • Diagnosis of handicapped children.
    • Program planning and evaluation of handicapped children.
    • Curriculum and methods of teaching handicapped children; and
    • Two or more practica in special education dealing with different kinds of handicapping conditions covered by this endorsement.
Assessment requirements:

Please note: Coursework for all endorsements must result in the award of college-level credit posted to an official transcript from an accredited college or university.
