Job summary

The Madison Metropolitan School District is seeking a dedicated Special Education Assistant to support students with disabilities across 4K-12. You will assist with instructional activities, behavioral supports, personal care, and data collection under supervision.

The role emphasizes inclusion, safety, and collaboration with teachers and specialists. Ideal candidates will have a relevant associate credential or equivalent coursework, a strong care ethic, and the ability to work in varied school

Ability to modify and deliver curriculum materials and activities.
Ability to monitor and support student behavior using district-approved strategies.
Proficiency with assistive technology and communication devices.
Willingness to engage in ongoing training on safety and inclusion.

Responsibilities

Support early childhood learning through play-based activities and scaffolding foundational skills.
Implement modified curriculum and intervention strategies to maximize student independence.
Provide on-site job coaching at community work-sites for transition-age students.
Prepare adapted literacy materials to ensure access to content at each student’s level.
Assist with behavioral support plans and supervise students during meals, recess, and transit.
Modify environments to foster belonging and increase engagement.
Maintain line-of-sight supervision and perform regular headcounts at transitions.
Perform sensitive personal care tasks and ensure student dignity.
Record objective data and maintain FERPA/HIPAA confidentiality.
Coordinate daily travel schedules for community-based instruction and work-site rotations.
