Job summary

Hayward Elementary is seeking a Special Education Support Professional for 0.875 FTE. You will assist students with social, emotional, and behavior needs, provide 1:1 and small-group support in classrooms and during activities, and help maintain a positive learning environment. Starting pay is $18.42 per hour with a $1,000 sign-on bonus.

Schedule is Monday–Friday, 7:30 am–3:00 pm, 35 hours/week, 9 months. Applicants must have two years of post-high school education or pass SD state testing, and

Qualifications

• Two years of post high school education or higher, or pass a SD-approved test.
• At least one year of work experience involving interpersonal interaction and supporting students with social, emotional, and behavior needs.
• Experience with behavior management.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required

Responsibilities

• Escorts students to transportation and other areas of the building.
• Provides personal care to students with daily living needs as needed.
• Provides 1:1 and small-group skill practice in special education classrooms or regular classrooms.
• Works with students in schools and on community outings.
• Prepares instructional materials as directed by the teacher.
• Provides clerical assistance with student records and progress notes.
• Assists with supervision during recess, lunch, and playground.
• Maintains confidentiality of students and families.
• Reinforces instructional and behavioral objectives.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Two years of post high school education or higher, or be able to pass a standardized test approved by the state of South Dakota, for designated Education Assistant positions.

EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

At least one year of work experience in a position requiring interpersonal interaction skills and knowledge of strategies to support students with social, emotional, and behavior needs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, hearing, frequent bending over, crouching, reaching, removing, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, threading, turning and walking. Frequent carrying, grasping, holding, lifting, opening, pulling, unfolding and unlocking are also required. Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Experience with behavior management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

• Escorts students to transportation and other areas of the building.
• As needed provides personal care to students with special daily living needs (e.g., toileting, feeding, physical management).
• Provides review and practice of skills taught by a teacher with students 1:1 and in small groups in special education classroom and/or regular classroom.
• Works with students in schools and on community outings.
• Prepares instructional materials as directed/selected by teacher.
• Provides clerical assistance to maintaining student records (charting, assignments, attendance, data for progress notes).
• Assists with the supervision of students during recess, lunchroom, and on the playground.
• Maintain the confidentiality of students and their families.
• Reinforces instructional and behavioral objectives for children.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Starting at $18.42 per hour + $1,000 Sign-On Bonus!

Pay Day: Last working day of each month, based on the payroll cutoff schedule.

Monday through Friday,7:30 am to 3:00 pm with a 30 minute unpaid lunch

0.875 FTE, 35 hours per week,9 months
