Job summary

Sioux Falls School District is seeking a Special Education Support Professional to join Jefferson High School. The role focuses on assisting students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs, under the supervision of classroom teachers.

Primary duties include 1:1 and small-group support, facilitating instructional activities, and safeguarding student confidentiality. The position runs Monday through Friday, with a 7:45 am–3:15 pm schedule, 0.875 FTE over 9 months.

Qualifications

• Two years of post high school education or higher, or pass a SD-approved test for designated Education Assistant positions.
• At least one year of work experience involving interpersonal interaction and supporting students with social, emotional, and behavior needs.

Responsibilities

• Escort students to transportation and building areas.
• Provide personal care to students with daily living needs as required.
• Provide 1:1 or small-group support under teacher direction in special education or regular classrooms.
• Work with students in school and community settings.
• Prepare instructional materials as directed by the teacher.
• Reinforce instructional and behavioral objectives.
• Maintain student records (charting, attendance, progress notes).
• Supervise students during recess, lunch, and on the playground.
• Maintain confidentiality of students and families.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
