Job summary

Frederick County Public Schools seeks a Special Education Instructional Assistant for Learning for Life at Tuscarora High School. This role supports students with IEP goals under the direction of certified staff, providing personal care and academic assistance as needed to help students participate in classroom activities.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, 1–3 years of experience, and relevant safety certifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; specific exams may be used to support Title One Schools.
• 1–3 years of experience working with students with behavioral, communicative and/or intellectual needs.
• CPR/First Aid certification.
• Crisis Prevention training within first year of hire.
• Registered Behavior Technician training within first year.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Regular and predictable attendance.

Responsibilities

• Supports students under the direction of FCPS staff.
• Communicates and documents student progress.
• Sets up and adapts materials and assistive devices as directed.
• Facilitates student progress toward independence.
• Monitors and assists during educational and recreational activities.
• Assists with routine personal care as needed.
• Participates in IEP-related activities and assessments.
