Job summary

Harrisonburg City Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Instructional Assistant for THOMAS HARRISON MIDDLE in Harrisonburg, VA. The position supports students with IEP goals within regular and special education settings and reports to the principal.

The contract runs 200 days per year with a salary scale listed as Teacher Assistant. The candidate will assist with classroom activities, provide one-on-one tutoring, manage behavioral progress, and help with materials and documentation while

Qualifications

Two years of college (associate or bachelor degree preferred).
Proficiency in spoken and written communication to express and exchange ideas.
Ability to follow detailed work procedures with speed and accuracy.
Bilingual ability preferred.
Experience with diverse communities and equity frameworks.

Responsibilities

Assist students with requirements of regular/special education classrooms and IEP goals.
Inform teachers of any information affecting student academic or social progress.
Prepare classroom materials for the student’s needs.
Provide one-on-one tutoring and model appropriate behavior.
Attend classes with the student and assist with notes and behavior management.
Supervise small groups of students as assigned.
Maintain attendance records and assist with transportation of students for medications.
