Job summary

Andover Public Schools is seeking a dedicated educator to support students with moderate special needs. The role focuses on individualized instruction, IEP goals, and collaboration with general education staff to adapt curriculum and behavior plans.

You will work in mainstream or pullout settings, design and implement behavior support plans, and prepare progress reports while coordinating with families and the Program Head.

Qualifications

  • Massachusetts Teaching Certification: Teacher of Moderate Special Needs.
  • Experience instructing students with learning disabilities, social emotional disabilities, autism.
  • Experience adapting materials/curriculum for special needs students.
  • Strong curriculum/academic background.
  • Ability to consult with general education teachers regarding learning needs.
  • Experience designing and implementing behavioral management programs.
  • Experience with inclusive model of instruction and willingness to team-teach.
  • Experience utilizing computer technology within the classroom preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Within mainstream or in pullout setting, provide teamed, small group or individualized instruction and/or academic support according to the goals in students' IEPs.
  • Modify and adapt curricula, materials, and the physical environment to meet individual student needs.
  • Complete diagnostic academic testing (formal/informal) as required.
  • Participate in IEP Team meetings for students assigned or newly referred.
  • Act as Case Manager for designated students, providing communication with parents and staff and preparing progress reports and IEPs.
  • Write specific IEP goals and objectives for students assigned or referred.
  • Design and implement behavior support plans for selected students.
  • Provide consultation services to school staff on curriculum and teaching adaptations.
  • Write objectives for individual educational programs for pupils in special needs programs or newly referred.
  • Attend special needs staff meetings and designated school staff meetings.
  • Write IEP progress reports for all students assigned.
  • Submit budget requests, inventory data, or required reports as requested by the Program Head.
  • Provide small group or individual instruction to special needs pupils as prescribed in their educational plans.
