Job summary

Andover Public Schools seeks a dedicated paraprofessional to assist in delivering instructional support under the supervision of the special education teacher. The role includes implementing individualized or small group lessons, applying IEP accommodations, and supporting students with behavioral and daily living goals.

The position requires assisting with data collection, providing additional practice, and collaborating with teachers to reinforce learning and access to the general curriculum.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Under direction, implement individual or small group lessons of teacher-designed materials.
  • Implement accommodations and modifications per IEPs and teacher guidance.
  • Provide support for behavioral, self-help, and ADL goals per student plans.
  • Collect ongoing data as directed by staff.
  • Provide extra practice and re-teaching of skills as directed.
  • Support teachers in implementing IEP goals, accommodations, and modifications.
  • Assist students in obtaining materials and focusing on instruction.
  • Help students learn to access and record their work.
  • Reinforce classroom rules and IEP-related behavioral expectations.
  • Supervise students during morning arrivals, recesses, lunch, and departures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Overview

Under the direction of the special education teacher and/or the Special Education Program Head and in collaboration with classroom teachers, perform any combination of instructional or self-help tasks designed to enhance learning, behavior, social-emotional development, Activities-of-Daily-Living (ADLs) and access to the general curriculum by and for students with identified educational disabilities. The essential functions or duties listed below are only intended as illustrations of the types of work that may be performed.

  1. Under the direction of the special education teacher, classroom teacher, or specialist, implement individual or small group lessons of teacher-designed materials.
  2. Implement accommodations and modifications as outlined on student IEPs and as directed by the special education teacher.
  3. Provide support and instruction for behavioral, self-help, and/or ADL goals, as outlined in students' IEPs, medical plans and behavioral plans.
  4. Collect ongoing data as directed by the special education teacher and/or specialist staff.
  5. Provide additional practice and re-teaching of discrete skills as directed by the special education teacher.
  6. Provide classroom teachers with direct support in implementing IEP goals, accommodations, and modifications for students with identified educational disabilities.
  7. Assist students in securing materials for lessons and in focusing on instructional materials.
  8. Help students learn how to access and record their work.
  9. Reinforce teacher initiated rules and protocols as they related to student procedures; implement appropriate IEP-related accommodations regarding behavioral expectations.
  10. Supervise students during morning arrivals, recesses, lunch hour shift, lunch recess and student departures.
  11. All other reasonably related duties as assigned.

Minimum of two years of college or equivalent two years experience working with children.

Ability to understand student curriculum and to implement multiple teacher-directed activities.

Knowledge of use of computers, including the application of classroom and adaptive technologies.
