Job summary

West Ottawa Public Schools is seeking a part-time Special Education Educational Assistant at Great Lakes Elementary School. This role supports an assigned student throughout the school day, helping them engage in instruction and activities while adhering to IEPs and behavior plans.

The position involves assisting with transitions, organization, and personal care needs, and requires CPI training or willingness to obtain it. School-year schedule, 29.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

• Provide consistent, attentive support to an assigned student.
• Assist the student in accessing and participating in classroom instruction and school activities.
• Follow the student's IEP and behavior/health plans as directed.
• Assist with transitions and organization to support daily routines.
• Support personal care needs including toileting as required.

Responsibilities

• Provide consistent, attentive support to an assigned student throughout the school day.
• Assist the student in accessing and participating in classroom instruction, activities, specials, lunch, recess, assemblies, field trips, and other school experiences.
• Follow the student's IEP, behavior support plans, health/safety plans, and other established student support plans as directed.
• Support the student in developing greater independence by providing the least amount of assistance necessary to participate.
• Assist with transitions between classrooms, activities, and school locations.
• Provide support with organization, materials, following directions, task completion, and classroom routines.
• Reinforce appropriate academic, social, communication, and behavioral skills.
