Job summary

West Ottawa Public Schools Education Assistant – ASD at North High School is needed to support students with IEP goals and assist the classroom teacher in delivering individualized instruction. The role is full-time during the school year, 35 hours/week, beginning immediately.

The ideal candidate will have CPI training (or willingness to obtain it) and strong communication and collaboration skills with staff and students.

Qualifications

• CPI training or willingness to be trained in CPI.
• Good communications/collaboration skills with staff and students.

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom teacher in implementing IEPs and provide one-on-one or small group instruction.
• Support inclusion by helping students participate in general education settings.
• Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) as directed.
• Monitor and redirect student behavior using positive strategies.
• Provide emotional support, breaks, encouragement, and redirection as needed.
• Collect behavioral data for teacher/IEP team review.
• Help students with toileting or hygiene routines (if needed).
• Maintain regular communication with supervising teacher about student progress and concerns.
• Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development.
• Work collaboratively with general education staff to support student inclusion.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
• Supervise students during transitions, lunch, or field trips.
• Assist in data collection for academic and behavioral progress monitoring.
• Support use of assistive technology and specialized equipment.
