Job description

Doral Academy of North Carolina is seeking a highly qualified, student-centered Special Education (SPED) Director to lead and oversee all aspects of the school's special education program.

The SPED Director serves as the school's expert in special education compliance, programming, and instructional support while ensuring that students with disabilities receive high-quality services in the least restrictive environment.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader who possesses strong knowledge of federal and state special education regulations, excellent organizational skills, and a passion for helping students, families, and educators succeed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership for the school's Special Education program.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts for SPED services.
  • Promote inclusive practices that support student achievement.
  • Align SPED programming with school-wide academic goals.
Compliance and Case Management
  • Ensure compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and NC policies.
  • Oversee referral, evaluation, eligibility, and review processes.
  • Monitor timelines and student documentation.
  • Review and monitor IEPs for compliance and effectiveness.
  • Coordinate IEP meetings and required SPED meetings.
  • Serve as main contact for audits and compliance reviews.
Instructional Leadership
  • Support teachers with research-based instructional practices.
  • Analyze student performance data to drive improvements.
  • Collaborate with teachers and administrators on accommodations.
  • Provide coaching and professional development.
  • Support MTSS and intervention processes.
Staff Supervision and Support
  • Supervise and evaluate SPED teachers and service providers.
  • Assist with recruitment and retention.
  • Facilitate collaboration between SPED and general education staff.
  • Foster a culture of accountability and growth.
Family and Community Engagement
  • Build strong relationships with families and community partners.
  • Serve as a resource for parents.
  • Maintain clear and professional communication.
  • Collaborate with external agencies.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Maintain required records and reports.
  • Manage budgets and program resources.
  • Attend meetings and support school initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Current North Carolina Teaching License in Special Education.
  • Minimum of 3 years of SPED experience.
  • Strong knowledge of IDEA and Section 504.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and drive decision-making.
Preferred
  • Master’s Degree in related field.
  • North Carolina Administrator License or eligibility.
  • Experience as SPED Lead, Coordinator, or Director.
