Job summary

Dublin City Schools is seeking a Special Education Secretary (.5 FTE) at Eversole Run Elementary School to support state-mandated special education procedures and compliance within the building. The role reports to the Building Administrator and supports the Academics and Student Learning department.

The position is 4 hours per day over 211 days, with an hourly pay range and 18 paid holidays as per the negotiated agreement.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Effective communication with adults and students, in person, by phone or by email.

  • Detail oriented and able to work without direction.

Responsibilities

  • Arrange meetings between staff and parents to obtain testing permissions and sign forms.
  • Maintain current forms required by law for special education placement.
  • Keep EMIS data current for each special education student.
  • Update EMIS information for state reporting to Central Office.
  • Schedule and notify staff and parents of IEP reviews and three-year re-evaluations.
  • Coordinate Section 504 RTI meetings and related communications.
  • Maintain confidential student files and forward originals to Central Office.
  • Process confidential correspondence among staff, Central Office, parents, and related professionals.
  • Distribute pertinent data about students or programs as requested.
  • Screen visitors and maintain building security.
  • Record attendance and withdraw students per state laws and policy.
  • Troubleshoot copier issues and assist in clinic duties as needed.

TITLE: Special Education Secretary (.5 FTE) - Eversole Run ES

JOB STATUS: FLSA Overtime Eligible

REPORTS TO: Building Administrator

DEPARTMENT: Academics and Student Learning

PAY RANGE: Four (4)

POSITION SUMMARY: To assist with efficient compliance to state-mandated special education procedures in the building.

Job Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or training and experience that are considered equivalent.
  • A reasonable knowledge of computer, filing, and office equipment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with adults and children, in person and via the telephone or email.
  • Ability to set priorities and work well under pressure.
  • Must be detailed oriented and have the ability to work without direction.
  • Courteous and friendly personality.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

Essential Duties

  • Arranges meetings between staff members and parents to obtain permission to test, to determine eligibility for special education services, and to sign required forms as requested by staff members and/or parents.
  • Maintains an ample supply of forms which are currently required by law for special education placement.
  • Maintains current program participation and event codes in the Education Management Information System (EMIS) for each special education student.
  • Maintains current and accurate EMIS information to the Central Office for State reporting.
  • Assists in scheduling and notifying staff members and parents of annual Individualized Education Program (IEP) reviews and three-year Re-evaluations for special education students.
  • Assists in schedule and notifying staff members and parents of Section 504 on Response to Intervention (RTI) meetings.
  • Maintains an accurate, duplicate, confidential file for each special education student in the building; sends original file to Central Office.
  • Processes confidential correspondence between staff members, Central Office personnel, parents of special education students, and private psychologists, psychiatrists, physicians.
  • Obtains, organizes and distributes pertinent data regarding special education students or programs, as requested.
  • Screens, then greets visitors, and helps maintain building security.
  • Withdraws students and records student attendance in accordance with state laws and Board policy.
  • Troubleshoots copier related issues.
  • Performs clinic duties as needed; such as, dispensing medication, first aid, etc.
  • Places, receives, and correctly forwards telephone calls to voice mailboxes or classroom phones.
  • Distributes incoming mail; U.S., intra-district, UPS, etc.
  • Ensures the safety of students.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relationships.
  • Remains free of any alcohol or nonprescription controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout employment in the district.
  • Exhibits professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgment.
  • Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, and intelligent human beings.
  • Understands the legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in, and practice of, ethical principles and democratic values.
  • Maintains confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 211 DAYS (183 DAYS; 8 Paid holidays); 4 hours per day excluding lunch. Salary as provided by the Negotiated Agreement. Work year to be established by the Board.

SALARY RANGE: $22.13/HR. - $24.46/HR.
